Across the Night is part of my Between Two Homelands series, exploring memory, distance and the connections that remain between places we have called home.

Framed by an ancient stone arch, Brisbane’s Story Bridge appears against a deep night sky, its lights reflected across the water below. The contrast between the weathered architecture and the illuminated bridge brings past and present into the same space, one carrying memory and heritage, the other suggesting movement, connection and the possibility of crossing.

The bridge becomes more than a physical structure. It represents the invisible links we maintain across distance: between countries, cultures, memories and the different chapters of our lives. Even when separated by geography, those connections continue to travel with us.

Across the Night reflects that quiet sense of belonging to more than one place, and the pathways, both visible and unseen, that continue to connect them.

Where the Rainforest Calls explores the meeting of memory, place and belonging through the recurring archway motif of my Between Two Homelands series.

Through an ancient stone arch, a lush tropical landscape emerges — palms, water and dense green growth illuminated by warm light. The arch carries echoes of Jordan and the places that shaped my earlier life, while the rainforest reflects Far North Queensland, the landscape I now call home.

A blue butterfly moves through the scene as a symbol of transformation, freedom and renewal. Arabic calligraphy is woven into the surrounding textures, allowing traces of heritage and memory to remain present within the new landscape.

The work reflects the experience of carrying one place within us while becoming rooted in another — a threshold where memory and the present landscape quietly meet.

Where the Ancient Lands Meet is part of my Between Two Homelands series, exploring identity, memory and belonging between Jordan and Australia.

An ancient stone arch becomes a symbolic threshold through which Uluru emerges, bringing two ancient landscapes into one visual space. The architecture carries echoes of Jordan, while Uluru represents the Australian landscape in which I have built another home. Birds move through the composition as symbols of freedom, movement and connection, while light suggests hope and continuity.

Rather than leaving one homeland behind for another, the painting considers how both can coexist within us. Across distance, culture and time, memories of one landscape become intertwined with our experience of another.

The work reflects a continuing journey of belonging—not between one home or the other, but in the space where both are allowed to meet.

A New Beginning celebrates resilience, hope, and the quiet courage to begin again.

Having faced profound challenges and unexpected change, they chose not to remain defined by what had been lost. Instead, they moved forward together, creating a new home overlooking the landscape, a place where healing, hope and new possibilities could take root.

The winding path leading towards the house symbolises the journey through hardship and into renewal. Soft morning light settles across the hills and water, suggesting that even after life's darkest moments, light returns.

Gardens flourish around the home, honouring love of nature and reflecting the themes of growth and restoration that shaped the work. The landscape is not intended as a literal representation of place, but as an emotional one, a sanctuary where adversity is transformed into strength and loss gives way to hope.

Above all, A New Beginning is about resilience: the strength to rebuild, the courage to dream again, and the enduring belief that home is not simply a place, but a promise of a new beginning.

Second Chance
Created for the Cairns Art Society Rejuve-Art Exhibition, Second Chance explores transformation, place and renewal through materials that have already lived another life.

Recycled coffee capsules and natural elements are layered with acrylic and textured media. A cassowary, an iconic presence in the rainforests of Far North Queensland, emerges within the landscape, beside a winding passage through earth, light and water. Arabic calligraphy embedded within the walls adds another layer of memory and cultural connection, while fragmented forms and textures evoke movement, belonging and connection to place.

At its heart, Second Chance reflects the possibility of transformation , giving discarded materials new purpose and allowing something unexpected to emerge from what might otherwise have been overlooked.
